Ecological Outcome Verification

Measuring what matters. WeCology is a Savory Institute accredited EOV monitor, bringing scientific rigour and field expertise to verify the ecological health of your land.

What is Ecological Outcome Verification?

Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) is a science-based protocol developed by the Savory Institute to assess the ecological health of land. Rather than prescribing specific practices, EOV measures actual outcomes—the results your land management produces across the four fundamental ecosystem processes: the water cycle, the mineral cycle, energy flow, and community dynamics.

EOV shifts the conversation from "what are you doing?" to "what is actually happening on the ground?" This outcome-based approach provides credible, comparable data that demonstrates whether land is regenerating, stable, or degrading—regardless of the practices used.

Developed through decades of research and fieldwork across six continents, EOV is now the leading verification framework for regenerative land management outcomes worldwide.

Outcomes Over Practices

EOV doesn't dictate how you manage your land. It measures the ecological results, giving you the freedom to use whatever practices work best for your context while providing the evidence that they're working.

Inputs Practices, methods, techniques
Outcomes Measurable ecological health

What EOV Measures

EOV assesses land health through the Four Ecosystem Processes—the fundamental mechanisms identified by Holistic Management that govern the function of every ecosystem on Earth. Learn more about the Four Processes →

Effective · Ineffective

Water Cycle

How effectively your land captures, stores, and cycles water. In a functioning ecosystem, rainfall infiltrates deeply into the soil, recharging aquifers and sustaining streams. In a degraded system, water runs off the surface, carrying topsoil with it.

  • Infiltration capacity
  • Ground cover percentage
  • Runoff & erosion indicators
  • Water retention capacity
Rapid · Slow

Mineral Cycle

The great wheel of elements—carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and more—moving between the living and the non-living. In healthy systems, this cycle spins rapidly as decomposers convert dead material into available nutrients. In degraded systems, the cycle stalls and fertility haemorrhages.

  • Soil organic carbon
  • Litter decomposition rate
  • Soil biology & respiration
  • Nutrient cycling efficiency
Maximum Solar Harvest · Minimal Capture

Energy Flow

How much of the sun's energy is being captured by living plants on your land. A thriving ecosystem presents maximum leaf area to the sun across multiple vegetation layers. A degraded landscape squanders solar wealth through bare ground and sparse vegetation.

  • Percentage of sunlight intercepted
  • Active growing days per year
  • Vegetation structural diversity
  • Bare ground assessment
Succession · Regression

Community Dynamics

The trajectory of living communities on your landscape. In healthy ecosystems, biodiversity increases as complexity begets complexity—predators regulate prey, pollinators enable reproduction, decomposers close nutrient loops. In degraded systems, complexity unravels and resilience crumbles.

  • Species diversity trend
  • Indicator species presence
  • Multiple trophic levels
  • Disturbance recovery rate
Savory Institute Accredited EOV Monitor

WeCology: Your Accredited EOV Monitor

WeCology is proud to be a Savory Institute accredited Ecological Outcome Verification monitor. This accreditation means that when you work with WeCology, your EOV data is collected, analysed, and reported to the highest standards set by the Savory Institute.

Led by Darren, who trained directly through the Savory Institute's rigorous accreditation programme and has applied EOV protocols across three continents—from UK farmland to the savannas of Kenya and South Africa—WeCology brings both global expertise and local understanding to every assessment.

The EOV Process with WeCology

A structured approach to understanding and verifying the ecological health of your land.

1

Baseline Assessment

We establish a comprehensive baseline of your land's current ecological condition. This includes assessments of the water cycle, mineral cycle, energy flow, and community dynamics—the four ecosystem processes. The baseline becomes the reference point against which all future progress is measured.

2

Monitoring & Data Collection

Regular field monitoring visits capture ongoing ecological data using standardised EOV protocols. We use a combination of ground-level observation, soil testing, and transect surveys to build a rich dataset that tracks changes over time.

3

Analysis & Reporting

Your data is analysed against Savory Institute standards and presented in clear, actionable reports. These reports show ecological trends, highlight areas of progress, identify areas needing attention, and provide the verified evidence required by carbon standards, investors, and buyers.

4

Adaptive Management Support

EOV is not a one-off exercise. We work with you to interpret the data, adjust management approaches where needed, and continue monitoring to verify that your land is on a positive trajectory. The goal is continuous improvement, backed by evidence.

Who Benefits from EOV?

Ecological Outcome Verification serves anyone who needs credible, science-based evidence of land health and regenerative impact.

Regenerative Farmers & Ranchers

Verify that your holistic management, adaptive grazing, or regenerative practices are delivering measurable ecological improvements. Use EOV data to access carbon markets and premium supply chains.

Land Stewards & Estate Managers

Demonstrate the ecological value of your land management to stakeholders, trustees, and funders. EOV provides the rigorous evidence base that supports long-term stewardship decisions.

Carbon Project Developers

EOV data provides the ecological monitoring foundation that carbon standards like Verra VCS, Gold Standard, and Plan Vivo require. Integrate EOV into your MRV framework for robust project verification.

Impact Investors & Buyers

Require verified proof that the regenerative outcomes you're investing in are real. EOV provides independent, standardised assessment that gives confidence in ecological claims.

Ready to Verify Your Regenerative Impact?

Whether you're starting a baseline assessment or need ongoing EOV monitoring, WeCology brings Savory accredited expertise to your land.
